Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
The General Government Committee, having considered the above titled resolution on July
12, 2010, hereby recommends that the resolution be adopted.
Chairperson, on behalf of the General Government Committee, I move the acceptance of the
foregoing report.

RE: Board of Commissioners — Resolution in Support of Senate Bill 395 to Make the
Process by which to Appeal Property Tax Assessments Fairer
TO: Oakland County Board of Commissioner's
Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS, the process by which Michigan property owners appeal property tax assessments is
complicated and can be confusing; and
WHEREAS, many Michigan property owners are concerned about their property tax
assessments during this time of declining property values; and
WHEREAS, property owners deserve to have ample time to seek a fair adjudication of disputes
over the tax assessments on their property; and
WHEREAS, Michigan Senate Bill 395 would require that notices of property tax assessments be
mailed to property owners at least 14 days in advance of the meeting of the board of review,
instead of only 10 days in advance as required by current law; and
WHEREAS, the Michigan Senate has passed Senate Bill 395. and it alAcrits action in the
Michigan House of Representatives:
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners
hereby supports Senate Bill 395, encourages the state House of Representatives to pass it. and
encourages Governor Jennifer Granholm to sign it into law.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners requests that
the Oakland County Clerk send copies of this resolution to all members of the Michigan
Legislature and to Governor Jennifer Granholm.
Chairperson, we move the adoption of the foregoing Resolution.
