Scott, District 5; Christine Lor:g, DistrioL 7; Tim Burns, District 19; Bill Bullard Jr., District 2 IC RE: BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS - PROCLAIM JULY RECREATION AND PARKS MONTH TO TliF OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS, the Oakland Count y Parks and Recreation Commission's mission is to provide all residents of Oakland County with recreational, leisure, and learning experiences, parks, open spaces, and facilities, resultin g in a comprehensive count y park s ystem that enhances qualit y of life; and WHEREAS, parks, recreation activities, and leisure experiences provide opportunities for young people to live, crow, and develop into contributin g members of societ y; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation creates lifelines and continued life experiences for older members of ourco7munit y ; and EREAS, parKs and recreation generates opportunities for people tc. cone to g ether and experience a sense of communit y through fur.recrational pursuits; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation a g encies provide outlets for ph ysical activities, socialization, and stress-reducin g experiences; and WHEREAS, parks, pla ygrounds, nature trails, open spaces, communit y and cultural centers, and historic sites make communities attractive and desirable places to live, work, pla y , and visit, in a manner that contributes to our ongoing economic vitalit y ; and WHEREAS, parks, g reenwa ys, and open spaces provide a welcome respite from our fast-paced, hi gh-tech lifest yles while simultaneousl y protecting and preserving our natural environment; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation agencies touch the lives of individuals, families, g roups, and the entire communit y, which positive y impacts upon the social, economic, health, and environmental qualit y of our communit y . NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Oakland Count y Board of Commissioners proclaims Jul y as Recreation and Parks Month and encoura ges all citizens to celebrate health y , active lifest yles by partictpatin g in their choice of recreation and park activities. Vote on motion to suspend the rules: AYES: Long, McGillivray, Middleton, Nash, Potter, Potts, Runestad, Schwartz, Scott, Taub, Woodward, Zack, Bullard, Burns, Capello. Coleman, Coutter, Douglas, Gershenson, Gingen, Gosselin, Greimel, Hatchett, Jackson, Jacobsen. (25) NAYS: None. (0) A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the motion to suspend the rules and vote on Miscellaneous Resolution #10152 — Board of Commissioners — Proclaim July Recreation and Parks Month carried. Moved by Scott supported by Burns the resolution be adopted.
