Attention: Mr. E. V. Erickson, Chairman
Gentlemen:
The Board of County Commissioners for Oakland County and the Board of County Road
Commissioners have recently reviewed your state trunk line construction program for
Oakland County and are pleased to note that several long needed improvements are
programmed for early construction. They will have a major impact on our transportation
system and will be widely appreciated.
However, there are several trunk line routes that are in dire need of construction that
are not currently programmed and on which we urge your strongest consideration for
programming and improvement at the earliest possible date. They are as follows:
No. 1 Priority
1. M-150 (Rochester Road) - M-59 to Big Beaver 4.3 miles; 20,300 V.P.D.
Reconstruct to five lanes with curb and gutter.
2. U.S. 10 (Telegraph Road) - Orchard Lake Road to Dixie Highway 3.0 miles;
37,000 V.P.D. Reconstruct from existing 4 and 6 lanes to 8 lane divided.
3. U.S. 10 (Telegraph Road) - Dixie Highway to 1-75 at Baldwin 2.3 miles.
Construct all new route to a 6 lane divided.
4. M-59 (Montcalm Extension) - East Boulevard thru Pontiac to M-59 near
Pontiac Lake Road. 5.0 miles.
No. 2 Priority
1. U.S. 10 (Dixie-Highway) - Telegraph Road to M -15 5.5 miles; 36,000 V.P.D.
Add fifth lane with curb and gutter plus bituminous overlay.
2. M-15 - Dixie Highway to Waldon Road 1.0 mile; 7800 V.P.D. Reconstruct
from two lanes to five lanes with curb and gutter.

No. 2 Priority, Cont.
3. 1-696 - at Inkster, at Drake. Construct interchanges.
4. 1-75 - 12 Mile Road, Rochester Road, Big Beaver Road, Increase capacity
of interchanges.
Oakland County continues to lead the state in terms of new residents and as a result
the traffic and congestion on our highways increases at a correspondingly rapid rate.
Your consideration of these proposed projects will be greatly appreciated and we will
be happy to furnish additional information or to work with your staff in any manner
you suggest.
Very truly yours,
William M. Richards, Chairman Paul E. Kasper, Chairman
