Miscellaneous Resolution 0 8071
BY: PUNNING AND BUILDING COMMITTEE - Richard R. Wilcox, Chairman
RE: Special Southeastern Michigan Transportation Authority (SEMTA) Committee
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS, much of the dissatisfaction with SEMTA results from statutory requirements
for selection of Oakland County representation on the SEMTA Board; and
WHEREAS, immediate effective change in the statute is not apparent; and
WHEREAS, much of the general dissatisfaction with SEMTA held by many in Oakland
County stems from an apparent lack of consideration for our points of view or an apparent
weakness from Oakland County not having clearly expressed a point of view; and
WHEREAS, SEMTA will probably continue as the transportation planning agency for
the seven-county area.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Chairman of the Oakland County Board
of Commissioners appoint a special committee of three persons including at least one member
of the Planning and Building Committee and one representative of the County Executive to
meet on a regular basis with Oakland County's representatives on the SEMTA Board to improve
communications with those representatives and further that this committee establish a specific
communication procedure to obtain input from associations representing cities, townships,
villages and charter townships in Oakland County so their views can also be included at
meetings with the Oakland County SEMTA Board members.
The Planning and Building Committee, by Richard R. Wilcox, Chairman, moves the
adoption of the foregoing resolution.
