HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 1985.06.13 - 11147 June 13, 1985 Miscellaneous Resolution # 85181 By: HEALTH AND HUMAN RESOURCES COMMITTEE--Nancy McConnell, Chairperson In Re: DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS--WALNUT LAKE--CONFIRMATION BY OUTSIDE AGENCY OR FIRM OF THE LAKE WATER RESULTS OBTAINED BY THE OAKLAND COUNTY HEALTH DIVISION To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Mr. Chairperson, Ladies, and Gentlemen : WHEREAS on May 3, 1985, the sewage lift station located on Inkster Road adjacent to Walnut Lake experienced a temporary mechanical service interruption affecting raw sewage; and WHEREAS on May 31, 1985, the electrical outage caused by storms resulted in an additional sewage interruption; and WHEREAS the Oakland County Health Division posted a beach in the affected area of Walnut Lake on May 31, 1985, restricting swimming until bacteriological testing had been completed; and WHEREAS the standard for total body contact in recreational waters is a maximum of 200 fecal coliform per 100 milliliters of water; and WHEREAS the 26 samples from various sections of the lake collected by Environmental Health Services after both spills and analyzed by the Oakland County Health Division Laboratory revealed fecal coliform indices of 100 or less; and WHEREAS 12 of these samples revealed indices of less than 10; and WHEREAS the members of the Lakeshore Residents of Walnut Lake, Inc., would like confirmation of the Oakland County Health Division Laboratory results by another agency or a consulting firm; and WHEREAS funds have been made available in the operating budget of the Evergreen-Farmington Sewage Disposal System. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that additional testing be done in Walnut Lake and that such testing be done by the Surface Water Quality Division of the Department of Natural Resources; or by the Water Quality Division of the Department of Natural Resources in conjunction with a private consultant firm; or independently by a private consultant firm. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the maximum fee for the consultant services for a series of testing shall not exceed $600. Mr. Chairperson, on behalf of the Health and Human Resources Committee, I move the adoption of the foregoing resolution. #85181 June 13, 1985 Moved by McConnell supported by Lanni the resolution be adopted. Moved by Law supported by Doyon the resolution be amended in the seventh (7th) WHEREAS paragraph, the last line following the word "results", by adding land also would like ecological studies to be performed by another agency or consulting firm to determine whether any damage has been done to Walnut Lake or its inhabitants (its inhabitants being fish or wild life that live on that lake)." Discussion followed. Vote on amendment: A sufficient majority not having voted therefor, the amendment failed.
