The purchase of nine disc storage units (one controller -and eight
spindles) will require the expansion of the existing computer room into
the adjacent office and storage areas. There will be some wall
demolition and new wall construction but the major item of work will be
the installation of additional raised computer flooring. As with any
job near computer equipment, dust control and debris removal will be
important considerations. The preliminary estimate for this phase of
the project is $16,000.
Related to the above work, but handled as a separate project, would
be the construction of a small addition to house the power management
system. The purchase of this equipment was authorized by Miscellaneous
Resolution 82172. It is intended to provide a uniform and constant
electric service by smoothing out the "peaks and valleys" in the
current. The proposed addition consists of approximately 300 square
feet (20 feet by 15 feet) with a slab on grade, three insulated metal
walls, and a roof. Estimated cost is $24,000.
Funding in the amount of $180,000 is available in the 1933 Capital
Improvement Program under the line entitled Administrative Annex I
Remodeling.
At this time, authorization to receive bids and report with a
recommendation is being requested.
