Hobart, Chairperson re: Authorization to Receive Bids - Tornado Warning System for County Facilities TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Mr, Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS the county currently has a system for notifying em-Jo7des and county departments of a tornado warning which consists primarily of a fan-out calling system over regular telephone lines; an 0 WHEREAS the above system is not completely effective because of the potential time lapse between the initial notification and the time it takes to call each department; and WHEREAS it is against all fire codes to utilize fire alarm systems for purposes other than fire signals; and WHEREAS there are electronic systems available which will allow the Dier Control Division to notify all departments simultaneously of a tornado warning, at the same time that the cA2tside sirens are activated.;, and WHEREAS ha ecplipment necessary, to implement this system, consists of a receiver which can be plugged into a normal 110 volt cutlet, with a battery pack for back-up, and =,,N711, not 17 7 currc any building or electria renovations; ancl WHEREAS it is estimated that the cost of obtaining (95) ,.h).ch units, which will be placed in designated areas throughot!':. county facilities, is $23,750.00. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Department of Central Services he and is hereby authorized to receive bids for the described equipment and a report thereon be made to this board after receipt and tabulation, of such bids, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that security measures be taken to assure that the Teeiverre kept in their proper location .
