Miscellaneous Resolution

IN RE: WORKER'S COMPENSATION
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS, there exists before the State Le gislature certain pendin g leg islation to
chang e the current worker's compensation laws ; and
WHEREAS, the adoption of such le g islation on a wholesale or piecemeal basis
would have a substantial adverse effect on the business climate and the future of the jobs of
the workin g men and women in Michi gan; and
WHEREAS, the residents, employees and employers of this State have a substantial
and continuing interest in fair and reasonable worker's compensation benefits and costs ; and
WHEREAS, the current system is fraught with abuses which deprive le gitimate
claimants of reasonable benefits ; and
WHEREAS, the cost of worker compensation insurance to some emplo yers has
increased as much as 100% over the last four years and an avera ge of 30% to all employers
since Jul y 1, 1977.
NOW THEREFORE BE iT RESOLVED, that the Oakland Count y Board of
Commissioners opposes the passa ge of any le gislation to improve benefits, resultin g in
increased costs to emplo yers, until it addresses itself to the problem of correction of the
abuses in the current s ystem.
BE IT FURTHER RESONED, that the State Legislature initiate positive action
immediatel y to correct the flagrant abuses in the present system, and that copies of this
resolution be sent to the Governor, County's le g islative representatives in Lansin g and to
the County 's Leg islative Ag ent.
