RE: POW/MIA AWARENESS
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS, the United States of America has observed the Tenth
Anniversary of the signing of the Paris Peace Accords on January 27, 1983; and
WHEREAS, the President of the United States has declared that the
intelligence assets of the United States are fully focused on the POW/MIA issue,
and this Administration will take decisive action on any live-sighting report that
can be confirmed; and
WHEREAS, there is strong, bipartisan support in the United States
Congress that the resolution of the POW/M1A issue is of the highest national
priority and that the full resources of our government and its agencies are now
committed to this goal; and
WHEREAS, public awareness from the American people is essential so
that our citizens, including the nine Oakland County residents who are listed
among the POW/MIA's, are both remembered and their return is fought for with
the same dedication that they exhibit as they serve us..
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the County of Oakland does
hereby declare April 9, 1983, as POW/MIA Day in Oakland County and urges
the Governor of the State of Michigan to declare that date a State Day of
Remembrance.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of Oakland further urges
the Governor to join with the President in his dedication to resolving this issue
by declaring that 1983 be dedicated to the resolution of the POW/MIA issue
through public awareness efforts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded
to the President of the United States and the Governor of the State of Michigan.
Mr. Chairperson, we move the adoption of the foregoing resolution.
