FY-1978 Results
The Oakland University Intern Program has recruited and placed
61 students in various county departments since the beginning of the
1978 contract period through August of 1978. The characteristics of
•this group are as follows: 72% females, 31% minorities, 36% economi-
cally disadvantaged, 29% handicapped and 11% veterans.
The chart on the following page is a comparison of the 1978 plan
submitted by Tony Hernandez of Oakland University and actual perfor-
mance.
The 1978 contract called for 80% of all terminations to be for
positive reasons. Oakland University responded with 90% positive
terminations. The contract also called for 50% of the total termi-
nating students to be placed in unsubsidized employment. A total of
45% were actually placed.
Throughout the year enrollment figures have been significantly
lower than the 1978 plan's projection. Reports have indicated an
imbalance in supply versus demand. Therefore, it appears a more
active role could be taken in recruitment so that a catalogue of
intern candidates could be at hand for openings.
The termination characteristics also indicate that more efforts
could be directed in the placement of students.
