Re: Naming Tributary of The Thread Creek-"Roman Villa Run", Res, #7818

Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen :
The Planning & Building Committee, having studied Res, ?"7818, hereby reports
its recommendation that the Board adopt said resolution; and that prior to suck adoption
the Board of Commissioners set a date and hold a Public Hearing on the Naming of the
Tributary of the Thread Creek- "Roman Villa Run", and authorize the County Clerk to
give notice of sock Public Hearing
The Planning & Building Committee, by Richard P. Wilcox, Chairman, moves
the acceptance of the foregoing report.

IN RE: NAMING TRIBUTARY OF THE THREAD_ CREEK
"ROMAN VILLA RUN"
To the Oakland County Board of Commissioners
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS there exists in Sections 4, 9 and 10 of Groveland Township,
Township 5 North, Range 8 East, Oakland County, an unnamed tributary of
the Thread Creek, which originates in the vicinity of Phillips Lake
(described on the United States Geological-Survey Holly Quadrangle Map,
1920 edition, as "Phipps Lake"), and continues northwesterly into Genesee
County; and
WHEREAS said tributary continues through Sections 32 and 33 of
Atlas Township, Township 6 North, Range 8 East, in Genesee County until
it flows into the Thread Creek; and
WHEREAS the Oakland County Drain Commissioner has received a
petition to name the above described tributary "Roman Villa Run" in
honor of Joseph M. Roman, deceased, who was the owner of the lands
through which the above described tributary flows; and
WHEREAS Mr. Joseph M. Roman as a resident of Groveland Township
cherished and protected the beauty of this natural stream for 25 years
until his death in 1974; and
WHEREAS it is desirable to have this tributary named officially
so that it may appear on federal and state maps;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the above described tributary
in Sections 4, 9 and 10 of Groveland Township be officially named
"Roman Villa Run;" and
BRIT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk forward certified
copies of this resolution to Geographic Names, Geological Survey
Division, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Lansing, Michigan,
and to the United States Board. on Geographic Names, Washington, D. C.
Mr. Chairman, I ask that this resolution be referred to the
Planning and Building Committee*

PETITION
The following is a Petition to name a Tributary of the Thread River.
This Tributary originates in Oakland County, in the vicinity of Phillips
Lake and continues northwesterly into Genes see County, draining into
what is known as the "Thread River."
In Oakland County, the Tributary meanders through sections 4, 9 and
10, Township 5 North, Range 8 East. In Genessee County, it meanders
through Atlas Township, sections 32 and 33.
This Petition is also being simultaneously requested through the
Genessee County Clerk's Office.
Currently the Tributary described above is unnamed, per my recent
inquiry of the Department of Natural Resources (D.N.R.). We wish to
Petition to have this Tributary named "Roman Villa Run" in honor of our
husband and father, Joseph M. Roman, deceased.
Please forward this Petition through the proper Channels, per the
attached submitted note (as received from D.N.R.) and then please
respond to our request as to the outcome.
