HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 1977.10.11 - 13360I-- I. • nfl • • cct n 8218 Miscel laneous Resolution Oct-k:: - 11, 1977 BY: Robert Gorslina, Commissioner, District #2 Aurriofity Park Development Policy -• TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMSSIONERS • • I\ of state c.i an rind a v a-T-- _ - s including OdcrJ Côcnty ; rind WHEREAS, said authority has been providing excellent recreational opportunities, including water sports, winter sports, nature study picnicking and hiking, for the millions of Michigan residents within its service area; and WHEREAS, said authority obtains a significant share of its funding from a one-r-arter mil (.00025) tax on the property in the five-county area, including Oakland County; and WHEREAS, an attempt by the authority to increase this tax was defeated by the voters in 1972; and WHEREAS, said authority then imposed an entrance fee on all who use its parks; and WHEREAS, said authority maintains it is still unable to gencrate sufficient revenues to expand the park system; and WHEREAS, said authority has 'apparently adopted a policy of generating add anal revenues by leasing portions of its parks to private, profit-makrag rgarjactions; and WHEREAS, this policy has been applied to the development of Kensinston Form at Ken-in31-ar, Metropark near Mlford and the Childr—,'s Form 19 slatE,d to Inc! such alien elements as a train ride and other attractions -lore suited to on omus-r—'f • WHEREAS, Kensington Me.tropark is comprised of bdcr,,tiful, rolling terrain more suited to (and currently in use as) an outdoor 1 -inv'n for enthusiasts of water sports, winter sports, nature study, hiking and picnicking.
