To: The Oakland County Boaxd of Commissioners
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS, bids will soon be made to the National Football League in. New York
City by several cities desiring to attact Superbowl games for 1986 and 1997 and
WHEREAS, representatives from Pontiac and greater metropolitan Detroit area
and the state will support Pontiac silverdome'E4 effort to secure such a Superbowl
game; and
WHEREAS, the great County of Oakland, Michigan, offers map/ advantages such
as the Lnratest concentration of pro-football fans in the country in a. radius of
600 miles, many fine hotels and winter sports, recreation and entertainment experi
which in the 16-mi1e radius of Pontiac can match any other city; and
WEPREAS, prior to awarding the PortiaC Silverdome Superbowl XVT, the National
Football leaps extensively reviewed the qu.alifications of tue Silverdome a:rid found
that it exceptionally suited for this up Pro-football event in that. it is the
largest co=ed stadium in the country with seatincy capacity for over 80,0000; and
WHEREAS, the County of Oakland and the entire. metropolitan region have
demonstrated their willingness to cooperate and support the efforts of the Pontiac
Silverdome in ho,sting such an event, and now have a proven track-record that this
County and its' people are truly Super-Class.
NOW THFPOPE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Oak iced County Board of Commissioners
hereL',' continues to support the Pontiac Silverdome as the best possible location for
a 1,11.bowl Game and urges the National Football League to go with a. winner: and return
this Superbowl to the Silverdome in 1926 or 1987. .
Mr. Chairperson, on behalf of the General Government. Committee, I move the
adoption of the foregoinq Pesolution.
