HomeMy WebLinkAboutElection Canvasses - 1998.11.03 - 1384• • CITY OF BIRMINGHAM CANVASSING BOARD PROCEEDINGS NOVEMBER 5, 1998 Minutes of a special meeting of the bi-partisan Board of Canvassers of the City of Birmingham, County of Oakland, Michigan, held in the Municipal Building of said City on the fifth day of November, 1998, at 5:30 P.M. Present: Robert Nicholson, Janet Edgerly & James D. Robb Absent: None The purpose of the meeting was to canvass ortelocal proposal which appeared on the November 3, 1998, General Election ballot. The oath of office was administered by the City Clerk. The City Clerk submitted Statements of Votes from thirteen precincts and one counting board. After thorough examination, the Board of Canvassers determined that the votes cast at the General Election held November 3, 1998, on the following question were as follows: Shall the City's maximum charter authorized tax rate of 1.75 mills on taxable value ($1.7 5 on each $1,000) levied for the purpose of providing funds for the support, maintenance and operation of the Baldwin Public Library be reinstated (this being the tax rate which was in effect at the time that the 1978 Headlee Amendment to the Michigan Constitution of 1963 was passed which has caused this tax rate to be reduced to its current level of 1.2931 mills pursuant to the amendment's rollback provision), which reinstatement would provide an estimated increase in revenue to the City for the support of the Baldwin Public Library in the amount of $557,720 in the event that the full 1.75 mills is levied by the City?
