Probation was temporarily relocated to the portable trailers to allow the Prosecutor to occupy the North Office Building so that the Court Tower, in turn, could be remodeled for additional Circuit Court judges. Now that the Prosecutor has returned to the West Wing, the North Office Building is available for the return of Probation. In order to accommodate the return, it is being proposed to relocate Cooperative Extension to the first floor, thereby making them more accessible to their clients; and place Probation entirely on the second floor, thereby improving the contact with their clients. In the exchange, Cooperative Extension also acquires the use of the large first floor multi-purpose room for their demonstrations. Probation originally had 35 people occupying 4,616 square feet or 132 square feet per person. They now would have 47 people occupying 6,459 square feet or 137 square feet per person. Similarly, Cooperative Extension originally had 23 people occupying 2,470 square feet and would now have 38 people occupying 4,229 square feet, an increase from 107 square feet per person to 111 square feet per person. The project is estimated to cost: General Construction Trades $ 36,200 Mechanical Trades 5,000 Electrical Trades 6,000 Michigan Bell 8,700 Carpet Replacement (200 square yards @ $15) 3,000 Moving 3,000 Miscellaneous (drapes, cleanup, signs, etc.) 2,500 CONSTRUCTION SUB-TOTAL $ 64,400 Contingency (10%) 6,400 Administrative (advertising, blueprints, etc.) 1,200 TOTAL PROJECT COST $ 72,000 The project is listed in the 1982 Capital Improvement Plan at an estimated cost of $180,000.
