HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 1976.04.29 - 14041Miscellaneous Resolution 7549 April 2q, 1976 BY: PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE, Hubert Price, jr., Chairman IN RE: C.E.T.A. 1976 SUMMER PROGRAM FOR ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED YOUTH (SPEDY) TO: THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners by Miscellaneous Resolution #6546 applied for and was granted the designation by the U.S. Department of Labor as Prime Sponsor to administer the provisions of the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act of 1973; and WHEREAS, Oakland County has successfully conducted Summer Programs for Economically Disadvantaged Youth (SPEDY) for the past two summers; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Labor has recently notified Oakland County of its 1976 SPEDY allocation in the amount of $1,312,580; and WHEREAS, in light of the continued high rate of unemployment in Oakland County, particularly among economically disadvantaged youth, it is the recommendation of the County Executive and the Manpower Advisory Council that Oakland County's 1976 SPEDY program be operated at an enrollment level greater than the 1975 program; and WHEREAS, a total 1976 SPEDY budget of $1.6 million is recommended; with such funds to be made up from the 1976 SPEDY allocation plus leftover funds from Oakland County's 1975 SPEDY program and such additional funds as needed to be drawn from Oakland County's FY'76 CETA Title I youth program budget. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners authorizes the filing of Oakland County's 1976 SPEDY program application; AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners authorizes the establishment of the 1976 SPEDY program budget at a maximum of $1.6 million.
