IN RE: M-59, L15-23 to WEST BOCIE LAKE ROAD
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
CHAIRMAN, LADIES AND G1.7i\ITLfM.H
WHEREAS, M-59 is the only existing cc.H -i ,•:uous east-west corrido• Oakland
County and provides service to intense land e ,,Jc.'n as the indnstrial comp l in the City
of Pontiac and the county-owned Oakla.ci-F,--.I .ac Airport, v.: .'ct the state's second
and
WHEREAS, classified on the 1980 National
S:'5tem effective July 1„ 1976, as a principal arterial which is the next step below an
Freeway; and
WHEREAS, this segment of highway does not •s?. traffic volume
I increase in deficiency as the ci -eo continues to grow; and
\AiriEREAS, the present alignment is hazardous; and
WHEREAS, the Michigan Department of State Highways and Transportation's
Rating System rates the road inadequate; and
WHEREAS, the tv Hean Staf,F: I.:•:gislature by Act 326 P. A. of 197.2 recognized and
ed this route as a priority route and provided ••:..-•::;ir so for its improvement, and
WHEREAS, the officials of Oakland County, both nt and county level,
have for many years declared the need for an adequate Pontiac and have
:,ghway Department to upgrade the road immea:.:tH••.. and
WHEREAS, the pavement has been widened from 'LH,,::p!-1 Road to \-'1IF;:ar•is Lake
Road and is presently scheduled for construction to begin in i977 between Williams Lake
Road and west of Bogie Lake Road.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the County Board of Co
unty urges the partment of State Highways and 7
modernization of this road by upgrading the present two-lane pavement to tive
lanes i.rom US-23 to west of Bogie Lake Road.
MR. CHAIRMAN, we move the adoption of the foregoing resolution.
