RESOLUTION NO. 7268
RE: SENIOR CITIZEN SCHOOL TAX EXEMPTION
HOUSE BILL 5367

TO: THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
MR. CHAIRMAN, LADIES & GENTLEMEN:
WHEREAS,the senior citizens of the County of Oakland and
the State of Michigan are living on fixed incomes; and
WHEREAS, the senior citizens of the County of Oakland and
the State of Michigan have contributed greatly to the lifestyle
of all citizens of the State in that they have paid taxes for many
years and given of themselves in the areas of education, environ-
mental concern and many other public services; and
WHEREAS, there is presently before the legislature of the
State of Michigan, a bill which would exempt a person 65 years
of age or older who is the owner of a homestead subject to tax
from taxes assessed for school purposes; and
WHEREAS, it would be in the best interest of the senior
citizens of Oakland County and the State of Michigan to have such
legislation enacted into law;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board
of Commissioners go on record as supporting House Bill 5367 pres-
ently before the Legislature of the State of Michigan which would
exempt persons 65 years of age or older who are owners of a
homestead subject to property tax from taxes assessed for school
purposes.
MR. CHAIRMAN, move the adoption of the foregoing resolution.

Moved by Wilson supported by Daly the resolution be adopted.
The Chairman referred the resolution to the General Government Committee.
There were no objections.
