HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 1975.11.06 - 14815_ James W. Dunleavy November 6, 1975 RESOLUTION NO, 7339 RE: RESTRICTED SPEED ZONES IN SCHOOL AREAS BY: MR. JAMES W. DUNLEAVY TO: THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MR. CHAIRMAN, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: WHEREAS, township boards and school boards do not pre- sently have the authority to establish restricted speed zones on highways in school areas; and WHEREAS, speeding traffic in school areas is a safety hazard to children in elementary school and junior high school; and WHEREAS, the township boards and school boards should have the authority to establish reasonable restrictions during school hours and a reasonable time immediately before and after school hours for the protection and safety of the children; and WHEREAS, it will require enabling legislation by the State Legislature to grant such authority; and WHEREAS, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners believes that the township boards and school boards should have such authority, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners requests the State Legislature to adopt enabling legislation permitting a township board, with the concurrence of a school board, to establish reasonable speed restrictions on highways in school areas during school and a reasonable time im- mediately before and after school hours MR. CHAIRMAN, I move the adoption of the foregoing resolution.
