Charter Amendment 3
Shall the City Charter, Section 5.11(B)(j), relating to
benefits under the employee retirement system to
surviving spouses, be amended by eliminating language referring to employees with at least 10 years of service" and replacing it with a reference
to employees with the number of years of service
credit required for retirement benefits In the City's retirement system ordinance?
Statement of Purpose
This Charter amendment would recognize that the
City may change its retirement system ordinance to provide for a length of service requirement of some period of time other than 10 years in order for
retirement benefits to be paid to surviving spouses.

Statement of Purpose
This Charter amendment would require the City to
certify any proposed pension increases lathe Trustees in charge of the retirement system so that an analysis of the true cost of the increase to the retirement system over a reasonable period of years can be made and planned for.

system, be amended by eliminating existing
language providing for a specific, minimum contribution by way of payroll deduction and
replacing it with a general statement that employee
contributions shall bean provided in applicable labor or employment contracts?
Statement of Purpose
This Charter amendment would change the current provisions governing employee contributions to the
retirement system, which require a certain fixed
amount of employee contributions (3% of the first $4,800 of compensation, and 5% thereafter), to
refer to an amount set by the employee's
employment agreement with the City.
