HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 1974.05.16 - 15259RESOLUTION NO. 6690 RE: TRANSFER OF SECURITY UNIT TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS BY: COMMISSIONER LENNON TO: THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MR. CHAIRMAN, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: 1 WHEREAS, the Security Unit of the Department of Facilities and Operations has grown from 3 employees in 1967 to the current staff of 24; and WHEREAS, the size of this unit will increase even further due to the request for Security coverage from the Airport, the Parks and Recreation Department, and Department of Public Works; and WHEREAS, the work of the Security Unit has broadened to include a considerable amount of safety work in co-operation with the Central Service Division; and WHEREAS, the Security Unit is a purely military unit; and WHEREAS, the Oakland County Sheriff is the chief law enforcement agent of Oakland County; and WHEREAS, the Security Unit could be established as a training ground for Sheriff Cadets, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Public Protection and Judiciary Committee investigate the possibility of transferring the Security Unit to the Oakland County Sheriff Department and establish an appropriate training and upgrading program, Mr. Chairman, I move the adoption of the foregoing resolution and ask that it be referred to the Public Protection and Judiciary Committee, Bernard F. Lennon, Commissioner Dist. 18 #6690 Moved by Lennon supported by Coy the resolution be referred to the Public Protection and Judiciary Committee. Moved by Richardson the resolution also be referred to the Building and Grounds Committee. Lennon stated he had no objections. Mr. Houghten objected to the referrals:, The chairman stated those in favor of ,sustaining the objection vote "yes, those opposed vote "no". The Chairman also stated it would take 14 votes to sustain the objection. AYES: Hobart, Hoot, Lennon, Mathews, Montante, Pernick, Quinn, Berman, Coy. (9) NAYS: Houghten, Kasper, Moffitt, Richardson, Vogt, Wilcox, Dunleavy. (7) A sufficient majority not having voted therefor the resolution was not referred.
