Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he spent the last 40 years of his life in Southfield Township, now the City of Southfield, and his home is considered a landmark in that it was an old farm house that Wayne enjoyed keeping in repair and landscaping. Wayne McDonnell retired from his own electronic business in 1964. He was an electrical engineer and prior to operating his own business he worked for many years as a radio engineer for several radio stations in the Detroit area in the early days of radio. One of his assignments was working as the radio engineer for Harry Heilman, announcer for the Tiger baseball games. He was a member of the Engineering Society of Detroit. He was active in civic affairs and was the type of person who did not prefer the limelight but was willing to do everything he could and let others receive the recognition, Wayne McDonnell enjoyed a host of friends in both major political parties and was respected by all who came in association with him.
