IN RE: ASSESSMENT OF AGRICULTURAL LAND BY: LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE TO: THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MR. CHAIRMAN, LADIES & GENTLEMEN: WHEREAS, the Equalization Committee of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners has conducted extensive and detailed considera- tion of farm land assessments; and WHEREAS, the Equalization Committee has recommended that the Board of Commissioners record its support for a procedure of assessment of farm land solely on the basis of the use of such land for agricultural purposes; and WHEREAS, the present method of assessing such land upon its market value has led to the fragmentation of large parcels of land precluding proper future development; and WHEREAS, the increased taxes on agricultural acreage poses a danger to agriculture in this county and in this State;and WHEREAS, the Legislative Committee concurs in the recommend- ation of the Equalization Committee; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners urges the Legislature of the State of Michigan to enact legislation which would provide a procedure of assessment of farm land solely on the basis of the use of such land for agricultural purposes. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to each of the Oakland County Legislators. The Legislative Committee, by Mr. Lawrence R. (14) NAYS: Perinoff, Richardson, Szabo, Wilcox,I Barakat, Brennan, Edwards, Houghten, Mainland, Olson, (10) A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the motion carried. Gabler: the resolution be tabled and returned to the Legislative Committee until a specific piece of legislation that takes into account the items brought up by Mr. Barakat, the conservation for pieces of property for overall development rather than setting up a blanket exemption for a specific class of taxpayers at the cost of the remaining taxpayers.
