RESOLUTION NO 5702.
RE: COMPENSATION OF BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
MR. CHAIRMAN, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
WHEREAS, Act 261 of the Public Acts of 1966, as amended,
provides that the Board of Commissioners shall establish its own
compensation; and
WHEREAS, members of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners
have, in the past, been criticized for establishing the level of
compensation; and
WHEREAS, the State Legislature does not establish its own
compensation, but rather the compensation is established by a
compensation commission composed of ion-menbers of the Legislature;
and
WHEREAS, most, if not all, city councils and commissions'
compensation is established by charter; and
WHEREAS, the compensation of the Oakland County Board of
Commissioners should be established by a commission composed
members other than members of the Board of Commissioners.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board
of Commissioners recommends that Act 261 of the Public Acts of 1966,
as amended, be amended to provide that the compensation of County
Boards of Commissioners be established by persons other than the
County Boards of Commissioners.
