HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 1970.08.20 - 16363August 20, 1970 RESOLUTION- RE: SPECIAL ELECTION HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE GENERAL ELECTION CHARTER COMMISSION AVON TOWNSHIP INCORPORATION (PROPOSED CITY OF ROCHESTER HILLS) BY: LOCAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE, Mr. Wilcox TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MR, CHAIRMAN, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: WHEREAS, there has been filed, pursuant to the provisions of Act 279 of the Public Acts of 1909, as amended, a Petition for In- corDoration of Avon Township as a Flame Rule City; and WHEREAS, a proposed Charter was submitted to the electorate of Avon Township at an election held on May 4, 1970, which proposed Charter was rejected by the electorate of Avon Township; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 17 of said Act, a Petition may be filed within 10 days of the canvass of the determination of the election so held on the proposed Charter calling for the selection of a new Charter Commission; and WHEREAS, a new Petition was timely filed calling for the elec- tion of a new Charter Commission.; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners is required to select a date for the election of a new Charter Commission; and WHEREAS, your Committee recommends to this Board that the date for the Special Election for the new Charter Commission be held on November 3, 1970, the date of the General Election, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Oakland be directed to take the necessary steps to call an election for a new Charter Commission for the proposed Incorporation Richard R. Wilcox, Chairman Paul E. Kasper Derinis M. Aaron of the City of Rochester Hills, at a Special Election to he held in conjunction. with the General Election on November 3, 1970. MR_ CHAIRMAN, on behalf of the Local Affairs Committee, I move the adoption of the foregoing resolution. LOCAL AFPAIRS commiTTEE Moved by Wilcox supported by Houghten the resolution be adopted. A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the resolution was adopted.
