RE: LAKE NAME CHANGE--CHASE LAKE, ROSE TOWNSHIP
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS, among the many beautiful lakes of Rose Township, Chase Lake,
named for the Chase family, has suffered an inadvertant name change to Cheese
Lake; and
WHEREAS, by Resolution of Rose Township, the Township Board has requested
that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners take action to officially register
the name Chase Lake with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and to
request that the U.S. Board of Geographic Names officially restore the lake to
Chase Lake.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the name of Chase Lake be restored for
the lake located in the Southwest part of Sec. 21 and Northwest part of Sec.
28, Rose Township, Oakland County, Michigan, and that all future maps, reports
and documents which may be published by the County of Oakland, State of Michigan,
and the United States Government shall designate that Chase Lake is the officially
adopted name.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk forward a certified copy of
this resolution together with a map showing the particular geographic feature
affected to the Geological Survey Division of the Department of Natural Resources,
and to the U.S. Board of Geographic Names.

Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
The Planning and Building Committee having reviewed the
above referenced resolution on February 27, 1990, reports with the
recommendation that the resolution be adopted.
Mr. Chairperson, on behalf of the Planning and Building
Committee, I move acceptance of the foregoing report.

BY RESOLUTION
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCER:
At a session of the Board of Commissioners of the County of OAKLAND , Michigan
SECONDED by Commissioner Skarrltt
That the name of a lake or stream (* ) located within the County of
SW21 and N OAKLAND and situated on section of Sect. 28 , township number T4N north,
range number R7E east, be changed from CHEESE LAKE
to CHASE LAKE for the reason The Lake was originally named Chase Lake,
but was sold to a Scottish Family that pronounced the lake "Cheese Lake" so after a while
it became known as Cheese Lake. They would like it returned to the original name which

MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
)4HEREAS it is desired that the name adopted by the above resolution be used in the future
maps, reports and documents that may be published by the State of Michigan and the
United States Government;
THEREFORE, in order that the above action of the Board of Commissioners shall be brought
to the attention of the proper State and United States officials, the County Clerk
is hereby directed to forward a signed and certified copy of these resolutions
together with attached map or township plat showing the particular geographic feature
affected to the Geological Survey, Department of Natural Resources, Stevens T. Mason
