WILLIAM CADDELL, CHAIRPERSON IN RE: COMPUTER SERVICES DEPARTMENT - PROCESSOR REPLACEMENT PLAN TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF calussION= Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS the County of Oakland currently provides computing services to 81 county divisions, 15 county departments, 45 local police agencies, and 61 Oakland County local communities, representing over 950 on-line customers with 190,000 on-line transactions processed daily and 240,000 batch jobs processed annually; and WHEREAS two (2) 4341 processors are six years old and havq been renovated 3 times to obtain cost-effective perfermance to meet increasing demand; and WITaEAS the one (1) 4381 processor is 3 years old and has been planned for renovation; and WHEI71,,,S a workin eormittee comprised of Oakland County Computer Services senior tecnical staff, consultants, and senior technical advisors from private industry. have examined in detail the County's gro,,..Tirx:, comnuttng demand and technical strategics to continue cost-effective services to all county departments and local police agencies.- and local communities; and WHEREAS the committee has recommended that a) two (2) 4341 processors be replaced with one (1) 4381-24 to be implemented in two stages for minimum service interruption, b) continue planned renovation of older 4381 as a multi-function and back-up .rooessor; and WI=EAS Computer Users' Advisory Committee and the County Executive recommends adoption of prc)oassor rcplacernt plan; and WilFaMS sufficient funs exist in the 1987 Computer Services Department budget to conduct the reolceent, no additional County funds are required. NM THERE E= hE IT RESOLVED thet Oakland County Board of Commissioners approves the attached reca=Lations for processor replacement and authorizes the Computer Services Department to replace two (2) IBM 4341 processors with one (1) 4381-24 and associated peripherals for continued reliable operation.
