Reason
The Sheriff Department has received a grant from the Michigan Department
of State Police to conduct an automobile theft prevention program in four
southwest Oakland County cities: Southfield, Farmington, Farmington Hills,
and Novi. This Automobile Theft Prevention Authority Grant is for the period
November 1, 1987, through October 31, 1988.
The police departments of each of the four cities will cooperate on this
project. An officer from each city will be funded by the grant and assigned
to a team to be headed by a grant-funded Sergeant from the Sheriff De-
partment. The team will identify and investigate vehicle fraud and organized
car theft rings. They will also be involved in locating and investigating
"chop shops" where stolen vehicles are disassembled and parts tagged for
illegal sale.
The grant covers 10070 of the salary and fringe benefits for the requested
position as well as all program costs. Future existance of the position
will be contingent upon continuation of grant funding at the same level.
