Skarritt, Chairperson IN RE: (OPPOSE) HOUSE BILL 4777 WHICH PROPOSES CHANGES IN THE MEDICAL EXAMINER LAW THAT ARE NOT IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF OAKUM COUNTY TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS, House Bill 4777 would amend the existing statute to allow the bod y of a crime victim to be autopsied in the county where it was found or for transportation of the bod y to the county where the crime was committed; and WHEREAS, this proposed leg islation could create confusion and could jeopardize investigation and prosecution, because some procedural determination cannot be made immediatel y; and WHEREAS, the intercount y transport of bodies could affect the quality of physical evidence and there could be duplication of tests and procedures ; and WHEREAS, time is of the essence in investi gating deaths, collecting evidence and performin g autopsies and the procedural dela ys that may result from the requirements in FIB 4777 could jeopardize expedienc y; and WHEREAS, if this le g islation were to pass, Michi gan would be the only state with the t ype of procedures specified in HB 4777; and WHEREAS, the Oakland County and Way ne County Medical Examiners oppose HB 4777. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland Count y Board of Commissioners take a position opposing HB 4777 which has alread y passed the House. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the four State Senators from Oakland Count y and the County 's le g islative agent.
