JOHNSON, CHAIRPERSON IN RE: 52ND DISTRICT COURT - 2ND DIVISION - SUPPORT LEGISLATION AUTHORIZING THE ELECTION IN 1992 OF ONE NEW OAKLAND COUNTY DISTRICT COURT JUDGE TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: The Public Services Committee, having reviewed the above-referenced resolution on December 3, 1991, reports with the recommendation that the resolution be adopted. Mr. Chairperson, on behalf of the Public Services Committee, I move the acceptance of the foregoing Report. PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE YE THE FORECOINC, qF MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION 91277 December 12, 1991 BY: GENERAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE - RICHARD G. SKARRITT, CHAIRPERSON IN RE: 52nd DISTRICT COURT - 2nd DIVISION - SUPPORT LEGISLATION AUTHORIZING THE ELECTION IN 1992 OF ONE NEW OAKLAND COUNTY DISTRICT COURT JUDGE TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS the 52nd District Court - 2nd division is experiencing a tremendous increase in caseload, and presently has only one judge, who was elected to this position on January 1, 1969; and WHEREAS based on review of caseload data and other statistical analysis one additional judge has been recommended to be added to this division; and WHEREAS while urging that the new Oakland County 52nd District Court - 2nd Division Judge be authorized in this year's new judgeship legislation, the County Court Administrator's Office recommends that the new Judge be elected in 1992 and take office on January 1, 1993; and WHEREAS the Personnel Committee and Finance Committee have reviewed and recommended the additional Judge position in the 1992/1993 Biennial Budget. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners supports the creation of one additional 52nd District Court - 2nd Division judgeship to be filled by election in 1992, effective on January 1, 1993. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the State Court Administrator, all Oakland County Legislators, and the County's Legislative Agent. Mr. Chairperson, on behalf of the General Government Committee ; I move the adoption of the foregoing resolution. Capitol Avenue Lansing, MI 48918 Dear Mr. Thomas: Pursuant to MCL 600.8175, the County of Oakland has filed with me a copy of a resolution from the Oakland County Board of Commissioners approving one additional judgeship for the 52-2 District court. I am hereby forwarding this resolution to the Bureau of Elections. Should the Legislature provide statutory authorization for the new judgeship during this legislative session, the new judgeship shall be effective on the date specified in the legislation, and shall be filled by election pursuant to the Michigan election law.
