Pappageorge Dis4lot 413 IN RE: Veterans* Convention Funding Policy TO THE OAKLAND cOUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Mr. Chairperson / Ladies and Gentlemons WHEREAS State of Michigan Public Act 323 of 1539 1 MCL 35,461 / author4.zes counties or cities to Appropriate from general fund dollars for conventions held by congressionally chartered veterans' organizations of the United States ,of America) and WHEREAS the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America have requested funds for their 50th Department Convention being held in Southfield June 20 through June 21, 1991; and WHEREAS the Oakland County Board of Commissioners has previously appropriated funds for a veterans convention; and WHEREAS the Board of Commissioners determine* it is necenary to establish, a policy to fairly and effectively address requests for funding veterans' conventions; and WHEREAS Corporation Counsel ha S made*an interpretation of MCL 35.461 and determined the Act allows that only $5 /000 in total may be appropriated by the Board of Commisaioners for this purpose, NOW THEREFORE SE IT REsOLvED the Oakland County Board of Commissioners establishes a non -departmental eocoUnt In the amount of 45 1 000 for veterans' conventions. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that no more than 41,000 be appropriated to any one veterans' organization in any one year foe conventions held in the County of Oakland. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the County Exec4ive establish a procedure for veterans' Organizations to Make application for funding. Mr. Chairperson, I move the adoption of the forepoing resolution. 002 G. (16) NAYS: Olsen, Palmer, Bishop, Caddell, Crake, Gosling, Huntoon, Jensen, Law, McCulloch, Moffitt. (11) A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the motion to suspend the rules for consideration of the resolution carried. Moved by Pappageorge .supported by Aaron the resolution be adopted. AYES: Pappageorge, Pernick, Price, Rewold, Serra, Skarritt, Wolf, Aaron, Ferrens, Johnson, Krause, McPherson, Millard, Oaks.
