HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 1959.05.04 - 191024 - Before. I read this statement which I have prepared, I wish to •assure All of you that there is no malicious intent in what I have to say. Inasmuch as I am the coordinator of nurses in Madison Heights and have been very close to the situation which has brought the inclusion of Psychological Warfare into the Medical Auxiliary classes I should like to issue a stateient in this regard. When teaching First Aid or any phase of medicine emphasis it4not only placed on what to do after the injury or disease has occurred, but more important how to prevent injury or protect ourselves from these diseases and illnesses which are apt to befall us. In the same manner, in Civil Defense we should not only be concerned with gathering ourselves up after the disaster and salvaging what is left, but we should practice preventative Civil Defense. In my estimation Civil Defense is the defense of our communities and country by the Civilian population. In order to do this, we must alert our citizenry to the personality, and modus operandi of the enemy from which we must protect ourselves. There should be no question in the minds of.you good Americans as to wether or not this is the place for this topic. I can not think of a better place to start such instruction. These people are concerned with these problems and we must be able to give them the proper answers. It is regretable that such an honest and sincere effort to do something, which is long overdo, should meet with Criticism and mistrust. Mrs. Rodrigues and the volunteer instructors who have been taking part in this fine program and those city and county officials who have assisted her are dedicated people and need our full support. I think that this body should at this time show our appreciation and support . by offering them a vote of confidence. Therefore at this time I, so move that this Oakland County Board of Supervisors cast a vote affirming their support and approval to this most necessary program. Fay e B.
