Smith August 5, 1959 Mi5C,p 3553 IN RE: APPROPRIATION FOR PLANS, SPEC.IFICATION3 AND COST ESTIMATES FOR A COUNTY CONTROL CENTER TO: THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlen: WHEREAS, the Civil Defense Committee has had under consideration the need for a County Control Center to function daring and after an enemy attack or other emergency, and WHEREAS, the Civil Defense Committee has advised that in the atomic age a new concept of defense must be adopted to minimize the effect of nuclear weapons and preserve the maximum nu:ILI::r of lives to insure survival of our American form of govern- ment, and WHEREAS, this matter was considered by the Board on June 22, 1959, when Miscellaneous Resolution No. 3543 was presented by the Civil Defense Committee and on that date referred to the Ways and Means Committee for report back to the entire Board, and WHEREAS, the ioint Committees met to discuss this matter at a meeting on July 1, 1959, at which meeting a resolution was adopted recommending an appropriation of $2,500,00 for plans, specifications and cast estimates for the construction of a County Control Center to be prepared by the Deportment of Public Works, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that a sum not to exceed $2,500.00 be appropriated from the County Contingent Fund for preparation of plans, sp,;:cifications and cost estimates by the Department of Public Works for a County Control Center to be located at the Service Center on Telegraph Road. red \N.'
