RESOLUTION May 2, 1960
BY: Mr. Osgood
IN RE: COUNTY INSURANCE PROGRAM
TO: THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen:
At the present time the County has insurance coverage of $9,626,775 on the
various buildings and contents owned by the County. In addition to this amount there
is a Builder's Risk policy on the new Court House for $3,049,700. There is also depreciation
insurance with a total amount of coverage of $2,598,776. The cost to the County at the
present time for these and the many other types of insurance coverage is $21,163.30.
I believe that the County is now at the point where a closer look should be made
at our insurance coverage and the over-all cost to the County. I also believe that a
thorough study should be made and that such study should include the possibility of
self-insurance.
I would like to offer the following resolution:
BE IT RESOLVED that the Ways and Means Committee, in conjunction with the
County Board of Auditors, be authorized to make a thorough study of the present insurance
plan of the County and obtain information on the advisability of County self-insurance and
report back to the Board recommendations prior to the consideration of the 1961 final
budget.
MR. CHAIRMAN, I move the adoption of the foregoing resolution.
. Osgood, Supervisor
of Royal Oak
Moved by Osgood supported by Hildebrandt the resolution be
adopted ,
A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the resolution
was adopted.
