IN RE: MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR R. CLARE CUMMINGS
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen:
R. Clare Cummings, a former member of this Board, passed away on
October 23, 1969, at the age of 85.
Born in Franklin and a Pontiac resident since 1911, he resided at 205 E.
Iroquois Road.
He served on the Oakland County Board of Supervisors, representing the City
of Pontiac, for 27 years from 1937 to 1964 and was a member of the Huron-Clinton
Metropolitan Authority for 19 years.
Mr. Cummings business career was identified with banking and finance in
which pursuits he held many top executive posts and was co-founder of the First Federal
Savings and Loan Association of Oakland.
He was active in civic, social, fraternal and youth organizations, having served
as president of the Clinton Valley Council of Boy Scouts, he was Chairman of the Pontiac
United Fund campaign in 1951 and was president of the Pontiac Chamber of Commerce
in 1931 and 1932.
Surviving are his wife Grace, and a daughter, Dorothy E. Cummings, of Pontiac.
Clare Cummings was dedicated in his service to the community and the betterment
of his fellow man.
MR. CHAIRMAN, I move that the foregoing memorial resolution be spread
upon the minutes of this meeting and that the County Clerk forward a certified copy,
affixed with the Seal of the County of Oakland, to the surviving wife Grace.
