IN RE: MEMORIAL FOR LEWIS C. JARRENDT
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Mr, Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen:
Lewis C. Jarrendt, a former Oakland County official, passed away on November
21, 1964, at the age of 72, after a brief illness. He resided at 3328 Indiandale,
Orchard Lake, Michigan.
Mr. Jarrendt was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and attended Cleary College in
Ypsilanti.
He served as Oakland County Drain Commissioner in 1933 to 1934 after 10 years
as deputy and was the County Civil Defense Director from 1954 to 1961.
He served in World War I and World War II, retiring with the rank of Maior and
was also the City of Pontiac Civil Defense Director during the early part of the second war.
A past commander of Cook-Nelson American Legion Post, he was active in the
affairs of the Pontiac Area Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and Grace Lutheran Church.
During his lifetime Mr. Jarrendt was with the old Oakland Motor Company of
General Motors and had been in the real estate sales field.
He is survived by a son, Lewis W., of Orchard Lake and a sister in Detroit.
His warm and outgoing personality had won him a host of friends who will deeply
mourn his passing.
MR. CHAIRMAN, I move that the foregoing memorial be spread upon the minutes
of the Board of Supervisors and that the County Clerk be instructed to forward a certified
copy thereof to his surviving son Lewis W. Jarrendt of 3328 Incliandale, Orchard Lake,
Michigan.
