BY: James F. Carey
IN RE: REPORT OF FINDINGS RELATIVE TO THE BANNING OF SUNDAY HUNTING
IN OAKLAND COUNTY
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen:
At its meeting on October 5, 1964, this Board of Supervisors received a letter
of request from the Ortonville Farm Bureau seeking assistance to initiate proper legisla-
tion banning Sunday hunting in the County of Oakland.
Said letter of request was referred to your Cooperative Extension Service
Committee for consideration.
Your Committee wishes to report that the referral was considered at a meeting
on October 6, 1964, and action was taken directing the County Extension Agent, Jay
Poffenberger, to forward a questionnaire letter to all Oakland County Townships and the
Michigan State Conservation Department requesting an expression of sentiment relative
to banning Sunday hunting in the County.
Twelve units of the twenty-four Townships and the Conservation Department
responded and the following results were noted:
9 in favor of ban 4 opposed to ban
Townships in Favor of Ban Townships Opposed to Ban
Holly Bloomfield West Bloomfield
Milford Brandon Novi
Commerce Oakland Pontiac
Oxford City of Troy Michigan State Department of
Orion Conservation
In view of a lack of unanimous reply to the questionnaire letter by all Townships,
it would appear to this Committee that this is a matter that should be taken up by the
entire Board of Supervisors for their decision on recommended action.
