IN RE: BOATING REGULATIONS
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Mr, Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS, Act 245 of the Public Acts of 1959, as amended, provides that the
governing body of any political subdivision of the State which is experiencing boating
problems may request that the Boating Committee of the State of Michigan hold a
hearing to inquire into the need for special local watercraft controls to alleviate the
problems; c;Ind
WHEREAS, the County of Oakland has been experiencing special problems created
by the possession of unsealed alcoholic beverages and the use of alcoholic beverages in
boating operations on the lakes within the County of Oakland; and
WHEREAS, the possession and use of alcoholic beverages has increased the
reckless use of boats and the number of accidents caused by boats operated on lakes
within the County of Oakland; and
WHEREAS, your Committee desires that the Boating Control Committee of the
State of Michigan adopt the following regulations:
1. Prohibit the possession of unsealed containers of alcoholic beverages, and
2. Prohibit the use of alcoholic beverages by any person operating or
occupying a boat plying the waters of any lake in this County, and
Provide that every motorboat being operated on the waters of any lake
in this County and being propelled by a permanently or temporarily
attached motor shall not be operated at a speed greater than 10 miles
per hour one hour after sunset and one hour before sunrise.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the County of Oakland, by and
through its Board of Supervisors, requests the Boating Control Committee of the State of
Michigan to hold the necessary hearings and adopt the foregoing regulations pursuant
to the provisions of Act 245 of the Public Acts of 1959, as amended.
