HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 1965.08.10 - 19619Miscellaneous Resolution 4468 August 10, 1965 BY: Mr. Edward IN RE: EXTENSION OF RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES TO MEMBERS OF THE ARMED SERVICES TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS during World War Il and other conflicts, it has been the policy of the United States Government to recognize the sacrifices being made by members of the armed services by extending certain rights and privileges to those who serve and the survivors of those who make the supreme sacrifice; and WHEREAS at the present time many service personnel are having to serve under conditions of war without being extended some of the rights and privileges previously accorded those serving under similar conditions; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Board of Supervisors recommends it to be the policy of the Government of the United States to extend rights and privileges as follows, but not limited thereto: 1. Government insurance as in World War II, with or without payment of premiums, with or without application by the servicemen. 2. Social Security coverage, especially to protect servicemen, and survivors of servicemen, who have never been covered by employment. To extend at least minimum coverage to those serving, particularly when wounded or injured, and to the survivors of any one killed while in service. Benefits to those discharged being conditioned upon receiving an honorable discharge, but without regard to length of service. 3. Education and training privileges as previously granted, including surviving minor children. Robert J. Turner be adopted. solution 4. Family benefits such as supplementing allotments to dependents, or family benefits paid directly to the dependents without allotment by the servicemen in order to assure a standard of living of the dependents being maintained above the minimum standards for survival or the welfare level. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this resolution be sent to U. S. Senators Hart and McNamara and to Congressmen Broomfield and Farnum by the County Clerk. MR.
