HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 1965.12.21 - 19675Miscellaneous Resolution December 21, 1965 BY: Mr. Carey IN RE: MEMORIAL FOR HOWARD CLARK HILLMAN TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen: Howard Clark Hillman, of 8070 Marquoit, Davisburg, a retired member of the Oakland County Board of Supervisors, passed away at the age of 91 on October 23, 1965, after a long illness. He was born on a farm in Springfield Township, attended Anclersonville School and went to work on the family farm at an early age. Besides farming, he excelled in carpentry and built his own house when he was 79 years of age. Active in community affairs, Howard Clark Hillman served as Supervisor from Springfield Township for 23 years until his retirement in 1953 and also served on the Oakland County Road Commission for 5-1/2 years. Throughout his tenure as a member of the Board of Supervisors, he served on the following Committees: Ways & Means, County Roads, Boys & Girls Club, Equalization, Appropriations, Tuberculosis Sanatorium, Fair, Airport and Township Expense; Chairman of the Traffic Committee and Chairman of the Agricultural Extension Committee. He instigated the Springfield Township Fire Department and served on a volunteer basis. He was a past master and life member of Davisburg Lodge No. 481, F & AM, and a member of the Davisburg Methodist Church. Howard Clark Hillman is survived by three sons, Charles and Louis, both of Davisburg, and Clare of Waterford Township; a daughter, Mrs. Martin Parker of Orion Township; nine (9) grandchildren; and fifteen (15) great-grandchildren. His community activities exemplified his interest in the well being of his fellowmen and he will long be remembered by all who were privileged to know him. MR. CHAIRMAN, I move that the foregoing memorial resolution be spread on the proceedings of this Board of Supervisors meeting and that the County Clerk forward a certified copy, affixed with the Seal of the County of Oakland, to the surviving three sons, Charles, Louis and Clare, and to the daughter, Mrs. Martin Parker.
