IN RE: MEMORIAL — FRANK SHIMMONS
To the Oakland County Board of Supervisors
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen:
Frank Shimmons, former member of this
October 1, 1962
Board and former Supervisor of Pontiac
Township, passed away on September 4, 1962. Mr, Shimmons was a member of this
Board for a total of 30 years from 1919 to 1926 and from 1932 to 1955. During this
period he was a member of several important Committees, to name a few -- the Ways
and Means, Salaries, Roads, Special Building and Special Court House Committees.
He was born in Pontiac Township on December 2, 1883, and lived his entire life
in that Township.
Previous to his election as Supervisor, he served 2 years as Pontiac Township
Treasurer and for many years he served as Treasurer of the old Bald Mountain School
District.
During most of his life he was engaged in farming in Pontiac Township and he was
also interested in an insurance business. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his widow, Clara Shimmons, he is survived by a brother G. Grover
Shimmons of Lake Orion.
MR. CHAIRMAN, I move that this memorial be spread on the records of this
Board and that a certified copy with the Seal of the County of Oakland attached thereto
be forwarded to his widow, with our expression of regret at her loss and the loss to the
community of a good and faithful public servant and a respected former member of this
Board of Supervisors.
