HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - 1963.04.15 - 201084153 April 15, 1963 Miscellaneous Resolution BY: Mr. Levinson IN RE: REQUEST TO OAKLAND COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION TO STUDY EFFECT OF PRE-TRIAL REQUIREMENT ON COUNTY OPERATING COSTS TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS, this Committee has been informed that the procedural changes in the General Court Rules of 1963 as adopted by the Michigan Supreme Court, which went into effect on January 1, 1963, require a pre-trial conference in every contested civil action in the Circuit Courts; and WHEREAS, this Committee has been informed that because of these conferences there is an increasing back-log of cases awaiting trial in the Circuit Courts; and WHEREAS, it appears that the intent of the pre-trial conference was in some measure to expedite the trial of cases and it has been questioned whether this is being accomplished; and WHEREAS, This Committee feels that the Oakland County Bar Association could offer this Committee assistance in evaluating the effectiveness of the new rules and their effect on the case load in the Circuit Courts and costs to the County; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors request the Oakland County Bar Association to make a survey of the procedural changes in the New Court Rules to determine what effect, if any, the changes are making on the case load in the Circuit Courts and request that they report their findings to the Board of Supervisors as soon as possible. MR. CHAIRMAN, on behalf of the Ways and Means Committee, I move the adoption of the foregoing resolution. WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE #4153 Moved by Levinson supported by Cummings the resolution be adopted. A Sufficient majority having voted therefor, the resolution was adopted.
