Miscellaneous Resolution 4214 September 16, 1963 BY: Mr. Levinson IN RE: FLOOD PLAIN RECONNAISSANCE STUDY TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS, certain Oakland County communities have requested various govern- mental agencies to undertake a flood plain reconnaissance study, and WHEREAS, if flood plains development is not controlled, a serious flood hazard will result to communities on rivers and streams, and WHEREAS, flood plain and flood hazard data on rivers and major streams of the Detroit metropolitan region are presently piecemeal and of varying degrees of adequacy, and WHEREAS, it is estimated that the total cost of a flood plain reconnaissance study will be $78,428.00, and WHEREAS, the Federal Government has granted an amount of $52,286.00 for this purpose, and WHEREAS, the Detroit Metropolitan Area Regional Planning Commission has requested contributions from affected counties to raise the balance of local funds necessary to undertake the study, and WHEREAS, based on land area within the drainage basins to be studied and the linear miles of streams by county, contributions have been allocated as follows: Total $26,143. and WHEREAS, it is the opinion of your Committee that such study would be of great benefit to the public safety and welfare of Oakland County; #4214 NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the County of Oakland participate in the Flood Plain Reconnaissance Study and that an amount of $5,882.00 be appropriated from the Contingent Fund to cover the County's allocation for the said study.
