MEETING
OF
LOCAL BOARD OF CANVASSERS
A meeting of the Local Board of Canvassers was held on Wednesday, September 10, 1997 in the
Shrine Room, City Hall.
The purpose of the meeting was to canvass the Primary Election of September 9, 1997.
Members Present: Elsie Bigger, H. Maxey, 0. Mc Clellon, A. Pettress
Others Present: Mary H. Williams, City Clerk and Yvette Talley, Clerk
Assistant, Cynthia Walker, City Attorney, Karen Talaski,
Oakland Press
Moved by E. Bigger, supported by A. Pettress to nominate Holbert Maxey as Chairperson for the
September 10, 1997 meeting.
Motion carried.
Chairperson Maxey called the meeting to order at 3:23 P.M.
The following notations were made during the meeting:
1. Precinct 1 - Discrepancy between the tape and the poll book. Resolved: Two
voter numbers were the same.
2. Precinct 2 - One person voted in the wrong precinct. The ballot was spoiled and
the person was directed to the correct precinct.
3. Precinct 5 - The print out tape was cut with scissors. The tape should not have
been torn off until the total votes were printed.
4. Precinct 9 - A voter from precinct 23 was allowed to vote in precinct 9. A
notation of the incident was made in the back of the poll book, the
registration print out list, and the application to vote. Also, one number was
skipped in the applications to vote.
5. Precinct 10- There was not a tape for the Board of Canvassers.
6. Precinct 17 - Last two names in the back of the poll book are names of people
• who voted by absentee ballot and there is not a ballot number for these
•
people.
RECESS FROM 4:50 P.M. - 5:05 P.M.
7. Precinct 30 - Discrepancy in the total votes cast. Clerk's office did not
verify tape amount against memory pack total. Memory pack entered into receiver
and totals were verified against tape. No changes in names of candidates to be
placed in nomination for November 4, 1997 General Election. Copies of the new
totals were dispersed.
Moved by A. Pettress, supported by 0. McClellon to adjourn the meeting at
5:10 P.M.
