Miscellaneous Resolution 4340 June 22, 1964
BY: Mrs. Mitchell
IN RE: MEMORIAL FOR GEORGE H. BURT
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen:
On Saturday, May 16, 1964, Mr. George H. Burt passed away at the age of 74
at his home, 955 North Cass Lake Road, V..-Oterford Township.
Mr. Burt had devoted many years of his life to the general welfare of his fellow
citizens of Oakland County, starting during the depression years with the Economic
Recovery Administration. He subsequently served as the State-appointed member of
the Social Welfare Board and Director from its inception in 1939 to 1958, and as
Director of the Department of Social Welfare from 1958 until his retirement because of
ill health on January 1, 1963.
During these many years of public service, Mr. Burt always had uppermost in
mind the alleviation of want and need of others. He was always willing and eager to
help lighten the burden of those fellow citizens less fortunate than he.
A measure of the loss to the County may be gained from the following extract
from a local press editorial:
"Our area loses an estimable citizen and a long-time devoted
public servant in the death of George H. Burt. . . . 0 His
passing will be deeply mourned by all who were privileged to
know him."
MR. CHAIRMAN, I move that the foregoing memorial be spread upon the minutes
of the Board of Supervisors and that the County Clerk be instructed to forward a certified
copy thereof to his surviving wife, Mae.
