Eighty-one of Michigan's 83 counties applied to the Department for participation in the Marine Safety program in 2012. This year, due to the reduction in available funding and the time frame that the federal funds were received, we were unable to issue equipment grants. Therefore, we calculated the average actual grant amounts awarded to each county for the most recent three years that information was available (2009, 2010 and 2011). We then targeted approximately 75 percent of the three-year average grant amount awarded for each county with a minimum of $2,500 and maximum of $210,000. STEVENS T.
