RE: MISCELLANEOUS RESOLUTION #92038, (SUPPORT)
REQUIRING THE USE OF VEHICLE LIGHTS DURING
INCLEMENT WEATHER
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
MR. CHAIRPERSON, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
The General Government Committee, having reviewed the above
referenced resolution, reports with the recommendation that the
resolution be adopted with the following amendment: add at the end
of the NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED paragraph, "as provided in
House Bill 5645, as amended by the House of Representatives."
Mr. Chairperson, on behalf of the General Government
Committee, I move the acceptance of the foregoing report.

RE: (Support) Requiring the Use of Vehicle Lights During Inclement
Weather
TO THE OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS, the states of Florida and South Carolina have enacted
traffic laws mandating the use of vehicle lights in periods of inclement
weather; and
WHEREAS, both states report traffic safety improvements
resulting from use of lights during periods of rain and other unfavorable
weather conditions; and
WHEREAS, based on the successful experiences of two other
states, enactment of such traffic requirements in Michigan seems
feasible.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of
Commissioners supports amending Section 684 of Act 300 of the Public Acts
of 1949 (Michigan Vehicle Code) to require use of vehicle lights during
periods of rain and other unfavorable weather conditions.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent
to all legislators from Oakland County and to the County's Legislative
Agent.
Mr. Chairperson, I move the adoption of the foregoing
resolution.

Moved by Schmid supported by Serra the resolution be amended as
recommended in the General Government Committee Report.
A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the amendment carried.

A sufficient majority not having voted therefor, the resolution, as
amended, failed.
