Chairperson, on behalf of the General Government Committee, I move the acceptance of the foregoing report, GENERAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE GENERAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE Motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote with Hatchett and Gosselin absent. Miscellaneous Resolution #14149 BY: Commissioner Shelley Goodman Taub, District #12 RE: BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS — CREATION OF AD HOC COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE POTENTIAL COST SAVINGS MEASURES FOR ROAD REPAIR AND CONSTRUCTION TO: Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS SEMCOG reports that 30% of Oakland County roads are in poor condition and nearly 23% of bridges are in a deficient state; and WHEREAS the average Michigan household pays an extra $3,014 per year in costs thanks to inadequate roads, highways and bridges, according to a new study by TRIP, a Washington, D.C.-based transportation research firm; and WHEREAS long existing traffic congestion issues and severely deteriorated roads limit economic growth and the ability to attract new investment; and WHEREAS asking for funding solutions from Washington and Lansing should only be one part of a strategy to ensure every single dollar available for roads is put to good use; and WHEREAS Oakland County government has long been a leader in innovation, excellent service and cost saving measures; and WHEREAS further dialogue could open opportunities to continue this record in collaboration in the area road repair and construction; and WHEREAS a coordinated effort to marshal all available county resources to tackle the problem of badly deteriorated roads is in the best interest of all citizens and job providers in Oakland County. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners hereby creates an ad hoc committee on Cost Savings Measures for Road Repair and Construction to study and report to the Board recommendations on policy initiatives for coordinated action between county departments and the Road Commission of Oakland County to maximize the use of road repair dollars. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the ad hoc committee shall be appointed by the Chairman of the Board and consist of two commissioners of the majority caucus and one commissioner of the minority caucus; a representative of the County Executive and a representative of the Road Commission of Oakland County. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds is requested to forward copies of this adopted resolution to the Road Commission of Oakland County and the Oakland County Executive.
