HomeMy WebLinkAboutElection Canvasses - 1999.03.09 - 2151"i • REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF CANVASSERS CITY OF SOUTH§§FLRR 17 A10 30 COUNTY OF OAKLAND, MICHIGAN L'Lkij Y COUNTY [LEEK March 11, 1999 The Regular Meeting of the Board of Canvassers convened at 8:00 p.m. on March 11, 1999 in the Council Conference Room, 26000 Evergreen Road, Southfield, Michigan, to canvas the results of the Special Election held March 9, 1999 PRESENT: Stem, Crosthwaite, Kurkechian ABSENT: Holzman A motion was offered by Kurkechian and supported by Stern that Crosthwaite be elected Chairman of the Meeting of the Board of Canvassers. Motion was adopted. WHEREAS, at the Special Election duly called and held in the City of Southfield, County of Oakland, Michigan, on Tuesday, March 9, 1999 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, pursuant to the provisions of Act 239, Public Acts of 1970 as amended on September 15, 1981, the Library Millage Charter Amendment was presented on the ballot at said Special Election; and; WHEREAS, the votes cast at said election have been filed in the office of the City Clerk and have been presented and examined by the Board of Canvassers; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Canvassers hereby determines that the votes cast for the Library Millage Charter Amendment at the said Special Election held on March 9, 1999 were as follows: T .111RARY MIT JAGEST-TALTYR_AMEMYIENT Yes 3,316 No 2,154 AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board of Canvassers further determines that the following charter amendment was approved: Chairman _ • Shall the charter of the City of Southfield be amended to provide that the amount which the City may raise in any one (1) year for library purposes by ad valorem taxes upon the assessed value of taxable property in the city be increased by one and two-tenths (1.2) mills, which, if fully levied by the City Council in the year 1999, would provide an estimated revenue increase of three million two hundred thousand dollars. TOTAL VOTES CAST: 5,538 A motion was made and seconded to adjourn and the meeting was adjourned at 8 :50Pm. I, Susan H.
