HomeMy WebLinkAboutElection Canvasses - 2011.05.03 - 2154REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF CANVASSERS CITY OF SOUTHFIELD COUNTY OF OAKLAND, MICILIGAN May 5, 2011 The Regular Meeting of the Board of Canvassers convened at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2011, in the Council Conference Room of the Municipal Building, located at 26000 Evergeen Road, Southfield, Michigan, to canvas the results of the Special Election held Tuesday, May 3, 2011. PRESENT: Mary Kathryn DeCuir Arm Malzberg Michael Ross Timothy Sulowski ABSENT: A motion was offered by Mary Kathryn DeCuir and supported by Ann Malzberg that Tim Sulol,vslci be elected Chairman of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Canvassers. Motion was adopted. WHEREAS, at the Special Election duly called and held in the City of Southfield, County of Oakland, State Of Michigan, on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., Eastern Daylight Savings Time, pursuant to the provisions of Act 239, Public Acts of 1970 as amended on September 15, 1981, the charter amendment hereafter was presented on the ballot at said Special Election; and, WHEREAS, the votes cast at said election have been filed in the office of the City Clerk and have been presented and examined by the Board of Canvassers; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Canvassers hereby determines that the votes cast for the charter amendment at the said Special Election held on May 3, 2011, was as follows: PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT FOR OPERATING MILLAGE 8960 1804 Yes No AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Canvassers further determines that the following charter amendment was approved: Regular Meeting of the Board of Canvassers May 5,2011 Page Two CHARTER AMENDMENT FOR OPERATING MILLAGE Shall Section 8.6(a) of the Charter of the City of Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan, be amended so as to permit the levy by the City of an additional ad valorem tax in an amount not to exceed 4.9183 mills for City purposes? This 4.9183 additional millage authorization consists of the following components specifically dedicated as follows: a) 4.0581 mills for police, fire and emergency medical services; b) 0.7066 mill for library purposes; c) 0.0976 mill for parks and recreation purposes; and d) 0.0560 mill for neighborhood street maintenance TOTAL VOTES CAST: 10,764 A motion was made and seconded to adjourn and the meeting was adjourned at I, Nancy L. M. Banks, the duly elected and qualified City Clerk of the City of Southfield, do hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and complete copy of a resolution adopted by the Board of Canvassers at their meeting of May 5, 2011.
